The more I thought about it, the more I was sure it would work. I had no idea you were so good at escape. And while there would be only one chance, I knew we would take it. Everything finally seemed like it was going to work out. And it was about damn time." Rumo and Gren had been planning their escape for nearly a month. There was still a slight chance that things could go wrong, but no plan is perfect. "I think this is it, Rumo." "Yeah. This is our only shot. If we fuck up…" Gren put a finger to Rumo's lips. "We won't fuck up. I think I'm about due for some good karma, don't you?" "I think we both are." Gren smiled. The two men lay in each other's arms for a bit longer. Rumo looked at his watch. "It's almost time." "I know. Did you get the right key?" "Yup. I know how everything works. You know how to fly one of those, don't you? Just in case you have to…" "Yeah, I know how. They're pretty standard, from what you told me." "There's only minor differences. You're smart. You'll get it pretty quickly. Besides, all you have to really know how to do is get it off the ground." "I think I can manage." "Good. In case we get separated, I got you a key, too. It won't be too hard to meet up again after getting off this rock." "No. They won't chase us too far, will they?" "It's not that they won't. They just don't have the manpower to do it. There aren't enough of them to bother. After a while, they'll put bounties on us. But I still wouldn't worry too much." "I'm not worried." Rumo looked at his watch again. "It'll be close, Gren. You ready?" "Sure. But if I wasn't, it wouldn't matter much. "Oh, shut up." "Your hand gonna work well enough?" "I'm right handed. I should be okay. But if anything happens, my left one should be fine now." "Good. Be quiet, okay?" "I know the plan." Gren kissed Rumo's cheek and stood up. He crawled under the bed. It was a tight fit as it was. He had to make it so he couldn't be seen at all. He managed to grab onto the bed frame and pull himself up against it. He was now suspended above the floor. When the guard shined a flashlight in, all he would see would be Rumo sitting on Gren's bed. That should be enough… The light came in through the tiny "window" that was on the titanium door. Rumo was sitting on the edge of the bed. His shirt was off. "Hikari. Where's Eckener?" Rumo looked up. "Dunno." "Very funny. I don't know what you're trying to pull, boy, but…" "Look. I haven't seen him all night. He wasn't in here when I came. I figured he got in trouble or something. From under the bed, Gren heard the key in the door. There was a buzz as it unlocked and opened. Gren looked over and saw the guard's boots by the bed. "The report says he came back. What the fuck is going on?" The door slammed shut. Although Gren couldn't see what was going on, he knew what Rumo had been planning. He heard the sound of the safety being unlocked and a gun cocking. "What the--" "Shut up. Or I'll blow your fucking head off." Rumo's voice was cold. It made it easy for Gren to see how he could have been part of a syndicate. "Give me your keys and your gun." "You can't be serious." "Do you really wanna risk it?" Rumo said, "Do as I tell you. NOW." There were noises, presumably of the keys and the gun changing places. "Hey, where's my…" "Looking for this?" Gren assumed Rumo had taken the guard's tazer, as well. He smiled. He hoped it wouldn't take too much longer. "You know, I have nothing against you. This is more for my safety than yours." More sounds. Gren saw the guard hit the floor right next to him. Blood pooled around his face. Rumo kneeled. "Come on." Gren managed to crawl out from under the bed, avoiding the guard's unconscious body. "What'd you do?" "Knocked him out." Gren stretched, then shrugged. "Okay then." "He's alive. I told you before, I won't kill anyone unless I need to. Now get dressed." "Yes, Sir." Gren mocked. Rumo glared at him.
"Damn. I didn’t think it would be that easy. It can’t be this easy, can it?" "Well, it just was. I’m not bitching." Rumo smiled from under the guard’s hat he had stolen. "Yeah, but...won’t they figure it out soon?" "Sure. But how will they find us?" Gren smiled. The two of them had been hiding underground for about two hours. The underground was a part of the prison that had been forgotten, apparently. The maps showed it, but it wasn’t used for anything. Rumo’s theory was that it was either a storage place or a punishment chamber a long time ago. Neither would have surprised Gren. "Can you take these things off me now? We don’t need them anymore." Gren held up his hands, still handcuffed. What had happened was that Rumo had put on the guard’s clothes and tucked his hair under the hat. He put Gren in handcuffs so it would merely look like he was moving a prisoner. There had been shackles, but he had removed those some time ago. Rumo smiled. "I think I like them right where they are." "WHAT!?" Gren’s eyes widened. "How am I supposed to fly anything with handcuffs on!?" Rumo’s smile widened. He leaned closer to Gren, forcing him onto his back. "Just let me be the pilot for now..." he whispered, "and maybe I’ll take them off when I’m done." Gren understood. "You’re horrible..." "Yes. And you love it." "You’re right." Both of them were all smiles. Gren used both of his hands together and took off the hat Rumo was wearing. His hair fell down around his face. "Much better," Gren whispered. Rumo leaned closer. "Too bad we don’t have more time." "We will later." "Yes. We’ll have all the time in the world, won’t we?" "Yes." Rumo started to kiss Gren, then stopped. "Oh, I almost forgot..." "What?" "You don’t have to be quiet this time." Gren looped his arms over Rumo’s neck and pulled him down. "I have no intention of being quiet." Both smiles widened this time. |
