For the Love of Villains
So what's this really about? This is about the fact that yours truly always, always falls for the villains. I also happen to have had a thing for Clancy Brown since 10th grade (Earth 2, in case you're curious). Naturally when I saw Highlander, it was love at first site.
I don't love villains in the "proper" way though. I love to love them rather than love to hate them. For some reason, when rapists and murderers and generally sick fucks are fictional, I'm drawn to them. I sympathize with them. I wish for them to win, but they rarely do. When villains win, they are usually only borderline villains anyway. In the case of the Kurgan, I easily felt that he deserved the prize. He had worked so hard...harder than anyone else. It's also easy for me to write off his twisted behavior as a product of his environment. In real life, this obviously is no excuse. In fiction, it triggers a switch in the back of my brain that produces an exciting fantasy.
I don't think I'm alone though...not even in the extent to which I love villains. I think people have a tendency to keep such thoughts to themselves. So, I will go ahead and speak for all of you out there who have an "unhealthy" attraction to the monsters. This site is for those of you who want to see every wicked smirk and psychotic smile. I've taken 270 screencaps of the Kurgan which, as you can imagine, is just about every frame he's in.
I'm not sure such a gallery could actually serve a purpose. If you're a perfectionist like I am, you'll probably want exactly the right picture. You can use them for whatever you want, but I require a link back if you use them online. If you make any icons or wallpapers, I'd love to host them here.
